Under Secretary for DWP visits local charity On the 17th June, James Plaskitt MP made a guest visit to P3's recruitment centre in Hayes town centre - Jobshop. Targeting 16-25 year olds in the London Borough of Hillingdon, Jobshop works with young people at risk of social exclusion who may be experiencing a variety of factors preventing them from securing long term employment, such as low skills, poor education and disability. In partnership with a number of external agencies including Jobcentre Plus and BAA, Jobshop has made a name for itself in the local area as a first port of call for young people in need of work. Mr Plaskitt, MP for Warwick and Leamington, who also holds a number of senior posts in Government, has a local connection to the borough after teaching for four years at Brunel University as a lecturer. Martin Kinsella, P3's Chief Executive said "P3 is absolutely delighted that Mr Plaskitt is coming to see how we work in Hillingdon. This will give us the opportunity to show the Minister what talented and inspirational young people live in this borough and how through effective support and partnership working, we help them to fulfill and achieve their potential".
Mr Plaskitt's visit highlighted the importance of effective and successful youth specific services that empower young people at risk of social exclusion and disadvantage. It also highlights the work beiing done by voluntary organisationssuch as P3 in partnership with statutory services such as Jobcentre Plus. Relationships like this are invaluable in giving young people the best possible opportunities for success that formerly may not have been so easy to access.
